"Parol" is the name for these quality Christmas lanterns that are native to the Philippine Pampanga culture north of Manila. In older days they were colorful tissue-on-bamboo frame 3-D stars that decorated homes and stores for the Christmas holiday. These parols are made from the seashell capiz. The shells are hand cut and framed with soldered brass strips. Inside the hollow lamps are C4 or C7 bulbs, on several coordinated "dancing" circuits, to give a festive, lively Christmas decoration for home, store or institutional windows, walls or ceiling hangings. They all have a hanging hook.
